White Elephant: An Unforgettable Thai Escape in South San Francisco

White Elephant is a wonderful little restaurant in South San Francisco that I haven’t discovered until recently. Originally, I was going to try this Mediterranean restaurant but when I got there, there was a wait time before we could seating. Being hungry, I wandered around and saw this place 2-3 doors down!
The interior is clean with a great painting on the walls fitting the theme of White Elephant + Thai. Dining tables fit the small mom and pop restaurant that will seat you as soon as you enter the establishment.

When I sat down, I was happy to note that it comes with a lunch menu (I arrived around 12:45 pm).
Depending on the protein chosen, the price will vary.
BBQ Chicken from the Lunch Menu
Cost: $18.95
The BBQ Chicken was pretty good paired with the rice, eggroll and salad. I enjoyed the sauce meant for the eggroll but you can also dip the bbq chicken in there to give it a sweet taste.
Pork Belly with Chinese Broccoli
Cost $21.95
The Pork Belly with the vegetables was a nice mix, and I think I preferred this over the BBQ Chicken. Too bad it wasn’t my order. My only concern was how the BBQ chicken plate had the sweet sauce but not this one (both dishes has the eggroll.
Closing Remarks for White Elephant
Overall, the dishes were nice and the service was perfect. We weren’t rushed and the pace was decent. It helped that there weren’t a lot of diners but this business did get takeout orders that I assume came from Yelp.
We also did a takeout to bring home. In hindsight, I should have eaten first before requesting for takeout right away, but that was my fault for not looking at the bigger picture. We ended up bundling food home from our in-dining as well as the takeout.
The price and service was decent, there was parking in the area, and the food was delicious.
