Tokachi Musubi is a food truck owned by Erika Yokoyama Sanchez in the San Francisco Bay Area. I found them by happenstance while walking back to Lot A from a SF Giants game. They can normally be found at China Basin Park when a ballgame is going on!

The name Tokachi Musubi comes from the food truck owner’s hometown, Tokachi, Japan. Tokachi is in the Northeast region of Hokkaido, Japan. For those who were curious, Tokachi is known for its open landscapes, agricultural wealth, and natural hot springs. The moor hot springs is a highlight because it’s formed from peat rather than volcanic rock. With that said, it’s great for people with sensitive skin to help improve circulation and relieve fatigue without the harshness of high-sulfur or acidic springs.

Tokachi Musubi food truck wants to connect the people and communities through food as Erika Yokoyama Sanchez grew up eating o-musubi (rice balls) while in Tokachi, Japan. Connecting people with the food she loves is one of her goals when serving these delicious rice balls!

Since its creation in 2022, Tokachi Musubi has been featured by Off The Grid, Totsuba Talk Session in Hokkaido, and most recently on NTV’s “Going! Sports & News” in Japan!

Being in TV was fairly exciting because MiniTani, the Shohei Ohtani impersonator came across the food truck by chance.

Tropical Musubi from Tokachi Musubi

Tropical Musubi

Cost: $6

Mango, Avocado, Lettuce, Rice, Nori, Sweet Chili Sauce

Sorry for the image here, it got jumbled a bit during the car ride. But it was pretty delicious for those who enjoy mango x avocado. The blend was enjoyable and would definitely order again.

This is a great item for vegetarians in my opinion!

Ikura Musubi from Tokachi Musubi

Ikura Musubi

Cost $8

Salmon Roe, Lettuce, Rice, Nori

My absolute favorite out of every item on their menu. I love salmon roe and they always make this with love and care. They do not skimp on the roe! I would order more but I definitely need to limit myself, reminding myself that they come in big sizes.

Ten Musubi - Shrimp Musubi at Tokachi Musubi

Ten Musubi

Cost: $6

Shrimp, Wheat, Egg, Rice, Nori, Sweet & Spicy Sauce (Soy Sauce, Sugar, Sweet Sake)

My second favorite item! I love how they give big shrimps that they fry up and place on the rice ball.

Closing Remarks on Tokachi Musubi

Other honorable mentions that I have enjoyed historically is their Karaage (Chicken, Soy Sauce, Sweet Sake, Sugar, Ginger, Potato Starch, Garlic) and Edamame (Soybean, Salt). The Croquette Musubi is also fairly good as well! Eventually, I will try out other items on their menu. I’ve been eying their Tuna Corn Musubi for awhile but haven’t summoned the courage to give it a try.

Did you know that they offer catering? If you have a large party, definitely reach out to them!

For those who already enjoy Tokachi Musubi, let me know which rice ball you favor out of their menu items!
